From October 18th to December 10th you can visit the new exhibition at the Sala Alfajar. Discover the colorful and special ceramics of Rafael Chacón.

Vibrant ceramics that will not leave anyone indifferent fill the Sala Alfajar. The exhibition will be open from October 18 to December 10, next to the Cathedral, at C/ Císter, 1, door 2, Málaga.

The pieces in this exhibition are made of stoneware, hand-modelled, with glazes of Rafael’s own formulation and with a third fire for the gold lustre. A very personal, detailed work, dedicating time to each piece, and with a symbolism that makes them stand out also for their bright colours. Love is a concept strongly captured in this collection, like a fire that burns and is shared, with inspiration from cherubs and red as the predominant colour.

The staging alludes to the celestial and the firmament, but also to the enchantments of the earthly at the crossroads, archaic magic and the simulation of the redeeming sacrifice of the Theban stranger. In this sense, Rafael Chacón knows how to expand his universe to accommodate it in his personal cosmological epic, letting love flow, connect and galvanise the air.

Jesús Reina Estévez

Rafael Chacón, from Seville, is a prolific artist who has trained in a multitude of areas such as styling, performing arts, costume and puppet design, photography, illustration and ceramics. He has won the President of the Generalitat Valenciana award and the CICA 2024 Honorable Mention. As a ceramist, he has participated in several collective exhibitions, but also in individual exhibitions in Granada, Malaga and Seville and has given several workshops and presentations. For him, artistic expression is “like a refuge, like my kingdom where I externalize my personal imagination in the forms I wish to communicate. Although the outside world is hostile and represents a great limiting burden and full of bad luck, my personal revolution manifests itself in my creations and in the power of creation within my workspace, my studio.”
