The beginnings of Alfajar
Every story has a beginning, and ours began in the mid-70s in Seville, when José Ángel Ruiz, a Fine Arts student from Ourense, and Lola Díaz, a Sevillian woman who was studying Arts and Crafts while working as a naval draftsman, met.
José Ángel dedicated himself to Education, passed the examinations for Secondary School teacher and after a few years in Galicia, in 1984 he asked to be transferred to Malaga. Upon arriving in Malaga, Lola, his wife, validated her studies to finish Arts and Crafts in the specialty of ceramics and set up a small workshop.
The definitive leap occurred in 1994, when Lola Díaz participated in the first business incubator course for women in Malaga, the VIVEM Program of the Andalusian Women’s Institute. Her project was selected, she received training and set up their workshop in El Viso industrial estate in Malaga, thus founding Alfajar artisanal ceramics workshop.
The approach of our production was, from the beginning, the design, the craftsmanship in all the phases of the process and the commercialization of author ceramics.
We consciously take the option of differentiating ourselves from popular ceramics, although the pottery tradition is always present at the origin of our forms. Our product consists of pieces of stoneware, refractory clay and other high-temperature ceramic bodies (1250º C) made with artisanal techniques in all phases of production and hand-painted.

Designs full of history
The shapes are inspired by traditional vases from the different cultures that have populated the Mediterranean: Etruscan, Iberian, Mycenaean, Muslim, Greek and Roman, although treated with a coherence of style that implies a geometric stylization of the silhouettes, a simplification of the volumes and the structures.
Each piece receives an individualized treatment that makes it a unique and unrepeatable work, with the handwritten signature of its author.
