1992-2022. Lola Díaz and José Ángel Ruiz dedicate a lifetime to the artisan manufacture of ceramics in Malaga

This year Alfajar celebrates its 30th Anniversary, but every story has a beginning, and ours began in the mid-70s in Seville, when José Ángel Ruiz, a student of Fine Arts from Ourense, and Lola Díaz, a Sevillian who was studying Arts and Crafts, met while working as a naval draftsman.

Alfajar celebrates its 30th Anniversary in 2022

José Ángel dedicated himself to Education, passed the tests to become a Secondary School teacher and after a few years in Galicia, in 1984 he asked to be transferred to Malaga. Upon arriving in Malaga, Lola, his wife, validated her studies to finish Arts and Crafts in the specialty of ceramics and set up a small workshop.

The first workshop was in El Viso industrial estate in Malaga

At the beginning of the 90s, the definitive leap of the couple took place, which in those years was consolidated as a family of potters, since their two daughters Diana and Paula grew up with them sharing that passion for art and crafts that has made them taken today to be an important active part of this company.

Our store always in Calle Císter in the heart of Malaga

Committed to local commerce and to creating a cultural activity in the city, our store has always been located on Calle Císter, next to the Malaga Cathedral. This has allowed us an incomparable setting to publicize our production and that of our suppliers. But in recent years we have also consolidated Alfajar Sala, a space to publicize art and crafts in different media and formats, creating a link between artists and visitors.

The current workshop is in Alhaurín de la Torre

Despite the different crisis and unfavorable situations that we have experienced in recent years, we have always had a great commitment to our work that has made us move forward. The incorporation of Paula and Diana to the family business in recent years has strengthened and consolidated our work. Curiosity and the desire to continue creating, researching and testing new technologies, materials and forms to develop our work is already a characteristic of the Alfajar brand.
