Farola Alfajar is a representation of the emblematic Farola (lighthouse) of Málaga, already turned into a symbol of the city. Dimensions: 10x10x20cm.  Farola Alfajar is decorated it with elements such as the biznaga, a flower made with jasmine that is very typical of our city, or espetos (grilled sardines). The surface treatment reproduces images related to the city and it is unique in each piece. It is handmade with iron oxides, manganese, cobalt and ash glazes, combining wax reserve and sgraffito techniques. It is finished in a single firing at 1250º C in an oxidizing atmosphere.  Each piece is a unique work made by hand 100% in Malaga. Each piece includes the handwritten signature of its author.  We offer the option of mounting the piece on a black lacquered wooden base. Farola Alfajar is a tribute to one of the most representative symbols of Malaga, the Farola. Our version of the lighthouse respects its shape and proportions. It is a lighthouse that, since its original configuration at the end of the 18th century, has shown different aspects both in its shape and its color. Its current appearance is a white silhouette that presides over the habour on its eastern flank and is appreciated by the people of Málaga.

Farola Alfajar, a classic.

The primary historical function of lighthouses is to provide safety for seafarers in the dark of night, heavy fog, storms and the high seas. It is a tower from which light emanates, creating a safety route for sailors in the face of adversity. The emblematic Farola of Málaga stands out for its stability and immobility over the years, surviving the worst conditions, always providing security and perseverance. The lighthouse is a solid construction that survives the force of nature, symbolizing hope and light on the new day. An eternal light that rotates continuously at the top of that tower announcing hope and optimism during the vital journey. After 30 years of experience, we can assure that the objective of Alfajar is to express the inner relationship of each person with the world, and therefore, with the nature around them. In this case through sculpture, transferring that relationship with the world to a round shape and in this case with the wide range of bottles and vases we have. The shapes are inspired by traditional vases from the different cultures that once populated the Mediterranean: Etruscan, Iberian, Mycenaean, Muslim, Greek and Roman, although treated with a coherence of style that implies geometrically stylized silhouettes and a simplification of volumes and structures. Our intention is to achieve this synthesis between the simplification of classical Mediterranean forms and the avant-garde of the 20th century.

Important information

All the pieces are different and unique, that is what it makes them special . After the purchase process, you will receive a piece with the same style as the one you are seeing, but the drawings and final finish of the enamels may vary a little. Everything is hand made.

Can I put water inside my ceramic?

There are some models that are designed expressly for that, as is the case of vases. These models are enameled inside, which waterproofs them and prepares them for use with water. In the event that they are not enameled inside, it could easily be refilled with water, but the base would ooz a little water, like the example of Spanish “botijo”. The ceramic body would not be damaged but a small plate would have to be placed underneath.
