Paloma grande

REF: 0080

90,00€

Ceramic stoneware sculpture in the shape of a dove. Each piece is unique, 100% handmade in Malaga. Dimensions: 17x12x22cm.

Our Paloma grande (Big dove) is a stylization of the natural form made of stoneware. The surface treatment is unique to each piece, handmade with iron, manganese, cobalt oxides and ash glazes, combining wax reserve and sgraffito techniques. It is finished in a single firing at 1250º C in an oxidizing atmosphere.  Each piece is a unique work 100% handmade in Malaga, Spain, that includes the handwritten signature of its author. It is presented mounted on a black lacquered wooden base. We offer the option to customize it with text, logos, etc. laser engraved. Birds have always been a source of inspiration for artists. Among them, the dove is a synthesis of symbolic meanings: In the biblical Genesis the dove is the bearer of the long-awaited news of the end of the flood appearing with an olive branch in its beak. In the New Testament it represents the Holy Spirit. In classical Greece it is associated with harmony and purity in general.  In April 1949, after the great war, the first World Congress for Peace was held in Paris. The poster for this event, made by the Andalusian Pablo Picasso, represented a dove and since then this bird has been recognized as the universal symbol of Peace.

Paloma grande (Big dove)

After 30 years of experience, we can assure that the objective of Alfajar is to express the inner relationship of each person with the world, and therefore, with the nature around them. In this case through sculpture, transferring that relationship with the world to a round shape and with the wide range of bottles and vases we have. The shapes are inspired by traditional vases from the different cultures that once populated the Mediterranean: Etruscan, Iberian, Mycenaean, Muslim, Greek and Roman, although treated with a coherence of style that implies geometrically stylized silhouettes and a simplification of volumes and structures. Cubism and expressionism also play a very important role in our work. Our intention is to achieve that synthesis between the simplification of classical Mediterranean forms and the avant-garde of the 20th century, in this case applied to sculpture.

Important information

All the pieces are different and unique, that is what it makes them special . After the purchase process, you will receive a piece with the same style as the one you are seeing, but the drawings and final finish of the enamels may vary a little. Everything is hand made.

Can I put water inside my ceramic?

There are some models that are designed expressly for that, as is the case of vases. These models are enameled inside, which waterproofs them and prepares them for use with water. In the event that they are not enameled inside, it could easily be refilled with water, but the base would ooz a little water, like the example of Spanish “botijo”. The ceramic body would not be damaged but a small plate would have to be placed underneath.
